Engines revving, fans screaming and the quickest pit stops I’ve ever seen. As a newbie to NASCAR, I had no idea what to expect when I was selected as a VIP guest to the Menards 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race. To be honest, before iDashboards sponsored Ryan Sieg I’d never even watched a NASCAR race. My only knowledge about NASCAR was whatever rubbed off from friends and colleagues that were fans and what I had seen in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Despite other research, I never could have imagined the experience I had and the exposure that iDashboards would gain at the Michigan International Speedway.
Heading into the race as part of the iDashboards team, we received VIP passes to the garage and the pit. I assumed we might do a quick photo opp with Ryan Sieg and the race car, and then shortly be escorted to the stands or a VIP section. But I received so much more than that both as a spectator and as iDashboards’ Communications Specialist.
As the race began, we were able to stay within the pit box itself and see all the action up close. From the intial start to the extremely quick pit stops, we were right there with the RSS Racing pit crew. Since I had met Ryan prior to the race, it was even more exhilarating to watch and cheer him on. Despite not feeling well and racing in 93 degree weather without air conditioning, Ryan did awesome and took 12th place.
At end of the race, we were able to head into the victory circle to watch history in the making as Daniel Suarez took home the win after passing Kyle Bush in the last lap. It was an exciting race to be a part of and watch from the sidelines.
